Anadarko’s Spar to Reef Decommissioning Project

Anadarko: Red Hawk Artificial Reef

In 2014, Anadarko became the first operator in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico to successfully decommission a spar facility, giving the Red Hawk cell spar a new life as an artificial reef off the coast of Louisiana.

Red Hawk was the world's first cell spar and began production in 2004 in 5,300 feet of water in Garden Banks block 877, approximately 210 miles south of Lafayette, La. After successfully producing the natural gas resources from the targeted reservoirs, the decision was made to reef the hull of the facility and recycle the topsides.
