rigs-to-reef-fishOver 420 decommissioned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico have been converted to artificial reefs. Thirty percent of the 15 million fish caught by recreational fishermen annually off the coasts of Texas and Louisiana are caught near platforms.

FISH AND MARINE MAMMAL PROTECTION

Exploration and production activity must comply with environmental statutes, regulations and executive orders that include National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) and Clean Water Act (CWA) to name a few.
