Core Laboratories Wins 2019 NOIA Safety Practice Award

Washington, D.C. – The National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) has presented the 2019 Safety-in-Seas (SIS) Safety Practice Award to Core Laboratories in recognition of its Iron CoreHandTM Lifting Assist System.  The system allows well site crews to be entirely hands off during core tube handling operations. Evelyn Medvin, Vice President and Jason Ashby, Manager of Field Operations at Core Laboratories, accepted the award today during NOIA’s annual meeting in Washington, DC.

“We are honored to accept this important safety award from National Ocean Industries on behalf of Core Laboratories. While we work hard to provide our client companies with the services they require, it is always our objective to provide a safe work environment which requires commitment by everyone, from management to our laboratory and field teams. Iron CoreHand is an example of that commitment put into practice. We developed this equipment to achieve the mutual HSE goals of Core Laboratories & our customers.  As a result, our crews stay mentally sharp and physically strong, reducing the hazards directly attributed to the fatigue experienced during heavy physical exertion.  As we continue to look for more ways to eliminate the factors that contribute to hazardous conditions, we applaud NOIA for encouraging all of its members & the entire offshore industry to stay focused on safety.” said Evelyn Medvin.

Since implementing the Iron CoreHandTM Lifting Assist System, Core Laboratories has seen zero recordable lifting injuries, zero related hand injuries, and zero dropped core tubes.

“We applaud Core Laboratories for their safety leadership and are pleased to present the company with this prestigious award. Core Laboratories has demonstrated that safety is priority number one, and their commitment to this goal was evident in the statistical improvements they achieved since implementing the Iron CoreHand Lifting Assist System,” said NOIA President Randall Luthi.

Core Laboratories’ award-winning entry was evaluated by an independent panel of judges from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, the Transportation Research Board, and an industry safety consultant. Aries Marine Corporation, Aqueous Corporation, Blackhawk Specialty Tools, Danos, Era Helicopters, Fieldwood Energy and Franks International also competed for the 2019 safety practice award.

NOIA has held the SIS awards competition since 1978 to recognize those who contribute to improving the safety of life in the offshore energy industry.  The awards are sponsored by Compass Publications, Inc.
