Ransomware attacks are highly disruptive, involve multi-million dollar ransoms, and handling these attacks requires very different skills from traditional breach response.  Dealing with ransomware threat actors involves direct negotiation with these groups, and critical decisions on whether to pay the ransom, negotiating the lowest possible ransom and preparing the organization for the possible consequences of non-payment, public disclosure etc., as well as developing and implementing a post-breach plan.
