For nearly five decades, the NOIA Safety in Seas Awards have recognized outstanding contributions to offshore safety, honoring the companies, individuals and innovations that help protect the offshore workforce.
The awards trace their roots to a 1972 submersible accident that took the lives of two divers from Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, Inc. In recognition of the risks faced by those working on the ocean frontier and the importance of advancing offshore safety, Compass Publications, Inc., publisher of Sea Technology magazine, established the Safety in Seas Award with NOIA in 1978.
Since 2014, NOIA has presented two distinct awards: the Culture of Safety Award, recognizing sustained organizational safety performance, and the Safety Practice Award, recognizing specific innovations and practices that have demonstrably improved offshore safety. The awards are presented annually at NOIA's spring membership meeting in Washington, D.C.
The NOIA Safety in Seas Awards are sponsored by Offshore, published by Endeavor Business Media, a division of EndeavorB2B.
Winners are selected by an independent judging panel consisting of offshore safety consultants and representatives from the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), the Ocean Energy Safety Institute and Endeavor Business Media. The panel reviews the entries and evaluates the finalists before selecting each year's recipients.
NOIA is pleased to recognize SLB as the 2026 Culture of Safety Award recipient and Oceaneering as the 2026 Safety Practice Award recipient. The annual Safety in Seas Awards honor outstanding contributions to offshore safety and recognize the organizations and innovations making a measurable difference across the industry.
