The Trump administration’s action to move forward on energy exploration opportunities in the Atlantic is welcome news for South Carolina’s economy.

We’re already enjoying the low gasoline prices that have been made possible by surging U.S. energy production. But fully participating in the American energy revolution through developing our offshore resources could bring even greater benefits — including the potential for more than 35,000 jobs across a variety of industries.

Extensive, coordinated safety improvement efforts from industry and government regulators have been successful, leading President Obama’s Oil Spill Commission co-chairs to conclude that “offshore drilling is safer than it was” when the Gulf of Mexico accident occurred in 2010.
