NOIA Applauds BSEE and Congratulates Shell

on Approval of Beaufort Sea Oil Spill Response Plan

Washington, D.C.Randall Luthi, President of the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) issued the following statement regarding the Federal approval of Shell’s Oil Spill Response Plan for the Beaufort Sea:

“We applaud the approval today of Shell’s Oil Spill Response Plan (OSRP) for the Beaufort Sea by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).  We congratulate Shell on their diligent work to meet the stringent regulatory compliance requirements of BSEE.  The approval is particularly encouraging following BSEE’s thorough review and approval last month of Shell’s OSRP for the Chukchi Sea.  While several more approvals are still needed, we are hopeful that the coming weeks will produce further  encouraging news leading to the realization of the exploratory shallow-water drilling proposed by Shell in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas.”
