NOIA Environmental, Social, & Governance (ESG) Network Underscores Emission Reductions in the Offshore

Washington, D.C. – The National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) today released the report, NOIA ESG Network 2023 Report: A Focus on Emission Reductions. The report highlights the work done by the NOIA Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Network and NOIA members to share and develop the best ESG practices across the offshore energy industry, including sixteen case studies in emissions reduction.

NOIA President Erik Milito said, “The American offshore energy industry has positioned itself as a foundation of an energy system that lifts society on a truly global scale. NOIA members are part of an incredible ecosystem that drives all forms of abundant, reliable, and affordable domestic energy supplies for Americans, while continuously driving down emissions."

“The record of success NOIA documents in the report reflects the spirit of relentless innovation shared by our members. NOIA members make the world better and we are grateful that they have embraced the NOIA ESG Network to help them learn, collaborate, align, and improve in their stewardship, governance, and performance.”

Paul Danos, NOIA Chairman and Owner & CEO of Danos, said, “Environmental, Social, and Governance performance is not just a catchphrase; it’s a core part of how the offshore energy industry does business. Our industry is made up of thousands of companies and hundreds of thousands of women and men who, along with producing energy safely and sustainably, support and promote the betterment of local communities. This attitude is how we lift our communities, and it is how we are solving pressing environmental and societal challenges at home and around the world.”

NOIA ESG Network 2023 Report At-A-Glance

  • The report features case studies in emissions reduction from NOIA member companies: Beacon Offshore Energy, bp, Halliburton, Heerema Marine Contractors, Shell, LLOG, Noble Corporation, NOV, Oil States International, Promethean Energy, SEACOR Marine, SLB, Talos Energy, TechnipFMC, TGS, and Tidewater.
  • The NOIA CCS Workgroup is aligning NOIA membership and activities in deployment of CCS in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Since the Workgroup published its first CCS policy paper in January 2022 it has worked jointly with the Offshore Operators Committee in support of a forward-looking offshore carbon sequestration regulatory regime.
  • NOIA successfully lobbied for key offshore oil and gas, wind, and carbon storage provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act. The offshore energy provisions in the landmark legislation strengthens the longer-term outlook of the U.S. offshore energy sector and helps ensure continued safe and lower carbon energy production.
  • NOIA named Vallourec as the winner of the inaugural NOIA Environmental, Social, & Governance (ESG) Excellence Award. The NOIA ESG Excellence Award highlights and recognizes those who, by their actions, design, or influence, are contributing to the advancement of the ideals embodied by the NOIA ESG Principles and the NOIA Climate Change Principle.
  • NOIA hosted several in-person and virtual events on ESG topics, including: the future for hydrogen along the Gulf Coast, the outlook for offshore carbon storage, understanding GHG reporting frameworks, the growth of American offshore wind, and building the workforce of the future.
