NOIA President Applauds Successful Capping of Gulf Oil Spill

WASHINGTON, DC – NOIA President Randall Luthi today issued the following statement on the apparent capping of the Gulf oil spill:

“This is by far the best news we have heard in about 86 days.  I am sure that industry, their families and neighbors are all collectively taking a sigh of relief and uttering a prayer of thanks.

“We are very hopeful that this fix continues to completely stop the flow of oil into the Gulf until the well is killed.  If this fix does prove effective, industry now has a demonstrated solution for the containment of subsea oil spills, should the unthinkable happen and another accident occurs.

“In a region which has suffered so emotionally, environmentally and economically due to the spill and moratorium, the fact that cleanup activities can now continue without the specter of an ongoing spill, will certainly boost the morale of the thousands of response workers.”
