Interior Virtual Forum Should Recognize Gulf of Mexico Economic, Environmental & Emissions Performance
Washington, D.C. - National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) President Erik Milito issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of the Interior announced a virtual forum to engage with stakeholders as part of the comprehensive review of the federal oil and gas program:
“The offshore Federal oil and gas program is serving the American public extremely well, considering that offshore production provides the lowest carbon barrels of oil, generates millions of dollars in funding for parks and recreation programs for underprivileged urban communities, and supports hundreds of thousands of jobs that cover every state in America.
"Developing Gulf of Mexico oil and gas leases is an explorative process. Finding commercially viable discoveries takes years of planning, billions of dollars of investment and a wide net of lease blocks. Throughout the entire process, companies are following the strongest environmental and safety standards in the world and supporting jobs, investment and government revenues. The end result provides the U.S. with a remarkable source of economic, environmental and emissions progress.
“NOIA stands ready to work with the Biden Administration during the virtual forum and beyond in order to more quickly resume leasing in the Gulf of Mexico and progress what is already an incredible American asset.”
