Latest Bipartisan Congressional Letter Underscores Importance of Supporting American Energy

Washington, D.C. – National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) President Erik Milito issued the following statement after a bipartisan group of Representatives asked Congressional Leadership to include energy sector relief in the COVID-19 response:

“The bipartisan letter to Congressional Leadership shows that a strong American energy sector is something that both parties should be able to stand behind. Without American energy production consumers would have to turn to energy produced by Russia and OPEC – the two parties partially responsible for this catastrophic drop in prices – to the detriment of millions of energy workers and consumers.

“The preference of our policymakers, and everyone else, should clearly be for more energy produced in the U.S., where we have the highest operating standards, stringent regulatory oversight and environmentally protective operations. But the companies responsible for anchoring safe and responsibly produced American energy, including companies all along the Gulf Coast, are facing an existential risk.

“America needs the economic, energy and natural security certainty of a strong energy industry now more than ever. Congressional support for energy relief is of paramount importance.”
