PROVIDENCE -- Construction of the first offshore wind farm in the nation is complete.
Crews working for Providence-based developer Deepwater Wind mounted the final blade on the fifth turbine of the Block Island Wind Farm just after 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Deepwater has been building the demonstration wind farm in waters about three miles southeast of Block Island since last year. The six-megawatt turbines will now go through a battery of tests before they go into full operation and start producing power by Nov. 1.
