The week ahead: Senate nears first big energy bill since 2007

The Senate gears up for a chance to pass its first substantive energy bill since 2007 as energy efficiency legislation heads to the upper chamber’s floor.

Or maybe not.

Co-sponsors Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) are still busy working to cut a deal on amendments.

Their bill would authorize an array of measures to encourage energy conservation by homeowners, manufacturers, businesses and the federal government.
