The auction for offshore wind power leases in the Northeast obliterated previous records on Friday as renewable energy developers scrambled to secure acreage in the last federal sale until at least 2020.
Provisional winners were Equinor, Mayflower Wind and Vineyard Wind. A 129,000 acre-parcel received a bid of $135 million, or $1,048 per acre. A second 127,000-acre parcel also drew $135 million, or $1,060 per acre, and a third parcel of 132,000 acres brought in $135.1 million, or $1,020 per acre.
